This is the thread for interesting trivia about Trigun, including cameos and references in other series. First off is this video I made, "Trigun: But Can They Sing?" a video showing off the singing roles of Trigun's Japanese cast (and Vash's English voice actor). As for references: There is a song by Four Years Strong called Vash: The Stampede. Vash makes a cameo appearance on a poster in Wild Arms 2: Apparently the developers were huge fans of Trigun. A "typhoon in humanoid form" is briefly referenced in Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale There are weapons in the game Mugen Souls that highly resemble punishers. This hairstyle on Gaia Online looks awfully familiar... An awfully familiar looking cat makes a cameo in Pani Poni Dash... Well, it could just be a regular black cat, but given the huge amounts of pop culture cameos in this show I wouldn't be surprised. Another awfully familiar cat can be spotted in an anime related skit in Robot Chicken. Croix Raoul from La Pucelle Tactics looks awfully familiar... Misc Trivia: Jeff Nimoy, Wolfwood's dub voice actor, is actually related to Leonard Nimoy. Second cousin once removed. In episode 9, you can see Wolfwood's cross on top of the bus before they even meet him! The dub of the anime added ambient conversations to town scenes. The Japanese version was silent except for the main dialog. Wolfwood is based on Tortoise Matsumoto, the lead singer of the band Ulfuls. "Ulfuls", pronounced something like "urufuru" in Japanese sounds like Wolfwood's Japanese pronunciation, "urufuudo". Nightow apparently puts great care in drawing Wolfwood's nose. Wolfwood's middle name is Dokonokuminomonjawaresumakinishiteshizumetarokakora or Daily Cigarette Intake. There was going to be a Trigun MMO, but it was cancelled. Got any more? And what do you think about the singing? Hehe.

I'm almost completely positive that Vash had a cameo somewhere in the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, but I can't for the life of me remember which chapter it was.
Here's my favorite piece of trivia, though: the title of the final episode of the anime, as per Nisimura's initial draft, was to be "Under The Sky So White." It was supposed to feature the second wave of Earth colonists landing on Gunsmoke in white ships and Vash having to explain himself to a vision of Rem that would ultimately take him away at the end of the episode.
I'm so glad that wasn't what happened, but I've gotta admit that, technically, it would have been a fairly good (and extremely ballsy) way to end the series.

Vash making a cameo in Wild Arms 2?!
That cameo got me into Trigun!

ninjamitsuki: My thoughts on the singing are that Wolfwood could sing to me any day! I always did like his Japanese VA. fantardism: I'd heard about the ships showing up in the last episode, but not the part about Rem. That's really interesting. Almost makes me wish they had animated it as some kind of bonus alternate ending. Here's a link to a couple of interviews with Nightow, the anime's writer and director, and the Japanese voice cast. It's got some fun trivia in it. www.oocities.org/sumirechan/tri-roundtable.html

This is just an observation by me, so there is no confirmation on this whatsoever, but... So recently, I have gotten into the manga/anime series Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. It's still fairly obscure in the US, but the series is INCREDIBLY iconic and influential in Japan, and has been so for decades. Anyways, there are two antagonists that appear in the series. One appears in the second story arc, named Kars. The other is the more well-known time-freezin' "WRYYY"-tastic Dio Brando, who appears in the first and third story arcs. So Kars. He is an ancient powerful being who intends to achieve ultimate power and take over the world. He also has this ability. (NOTE: while JJBa has been around since the 80s, the ANIME adaptation just started over a year ago. It stays faithful to the manga, however, so while the animation is new, the story, scene and character are not) behind that turban is a mane of messy long purple hair. Though I'm having a hard time finding a good picture of it. And then there is Dio Brando. A blond-haired vampire with time-freezing abilities and about a million set of knives probably stashed in his giant genie shoes. His outfit looks like this: "What the heck does this have to do with Trigun, Moogy? You feelin' alright? do you need to go lay down or something?" I probably do, undetermined voice, but all I'm saying is... Jojo's Bizarre Adventure predates Trigun, and is very popular and influential among manga writers to this day. And it may be a stretch to say, but Nightow was probably, y'know... ... a little inspired when designing a certain slicey dicey guy.

In the fifth episode of the Gungrave anime, there's a Toma/Thomas race on the television in which two of the competitors are named Black Chapel and Michael Stampede c: Also, Kugashira Bunji sure does look a lot like Wolfwood.... And the Center Head of the Cerberus weilded by Fangorum from Gungrave Overdose resembles the Punisher.... Then again, Nightow is the creator of Gungrave as well so we were bound to see some references... Attachments:

Well, speaking of references to other things inside Trigun... I think Elendira may have been a bit inspired by Leiji Matsumoto's Maetel.

Guess I'll add something:
Wolfwood's middle name is Dokonokuminomonjawaresumakinishiteshizumetarokakora.

Kuroneko-Sama makes a cameo appearance in an episode of Pani Poni Dash. Though it could just be a coincidence.

not sure if it was on purpose or just because of nightow's style, but this vampire in chapter 0 of blood blockade battlefront looks a HECK of a lot like vash................ (from this page) also at the beginning of the chapter that same vampire had his hair all curly and in front of his face and he looked more like long-haired knives. so hey, maybe it is just the style - but it always caught my eye as a super strong resemblance either way

I'm a big fan of Blood Blockade Battlefront. <3 And yet somehow I hadn't noticed how ridiculously like Vash he looks. XD I have noticed that some of his characters look a lot like some of his other characters, though. And there's definitely a certain style he has of drawing long curly hair that makes everyone look like Knives.
