A thread in which to post about all those tunes that make you go "Damn, that song is so Trigun." And of course, feel free to gush about the anime's actual awesometastic sountrack, as well (as if that needs any further praise heaped upon it!).
As for me, I tend to associate Trigun with distorted guitars and classical rock for obvious reasons. If I'm drawing anything Trigun related, chances are one of Led Zeppelin's albums will be blasting in the background.
Something about the spirit of adventure and camaraderie in this one fiercely reminds me of Vash and Wolfwood. Of course, lyrics like "sandy lands" and "eternal summer's glow" just help cement the association.

For me I ALWAYS think of Trigun Maximum and would love to someday do a MMV to this song, but I'm not so good at MMVs as I'd need to photoshop and clean up all my scans first... and save the scans to my computer. Okay, so more too lazy to do an MMV.
But 10 Year's Wasteland is just perfect.
It just fits the two brothers and the conflict of No Man's Land so well in my mind.
Change my attempt good intentions Should I, could I Here we are with your obsession Should I, could I
And just because I'm on 10 Years. Another song I'd like to work with some day of theirs is Picture Perfect (In Your Eyes)
Stars are burning brighter. So bright we can't ignore. We're hypnotized by televised train wrecks tragedy's a paycheck. Maybe I, a product of my placement. We're given no time to make up our minds.
My thinking when I listen to this song is Vash's world view and how very different the world look through his eyes vs well.... everyone else. I'd love to make a video of Meryl and how she changes over the course of the manga. From just following Vash, seeing things differently because of him, becoming afraid, then trying to concur that. How eventually everyone slowly tries to see things differently.

"Keep Yourself Alive" by Queen just became my theme for Vash. It sort of reminds me of his life and troubles
I was told a million times Of all the troubles in my way Tried to grow a little wiser Little better ev'ry day .... Keep yourself alive Keep yourself alive It'll take you all your time and a money To keep me satisfied Do you think you're better ev'ry day? No I think I'm two steps nearer to my grave
"Stone Cold Crazy", "Another One Bites the Dust", and "Ride the Wild Wind" (all Queen) remind me of Vash, too. Queen has become my "Vash band."
Also, They Might Be Giant's "Sapphire Bullets of Pure Love" makes me think of Vash, and Trigun in general.
John, I've been bad And they're coming after me Done someone wrong And I fear that it was me (Substitute "Rem for "John" and bam, it's from Vash's POV)
Also, from TMBG, "Can't Keep Johnny Down", replace Johnny with Vash and it could easily be about Vash, haha
(note the donuts in the video.)

Well, I certainly have a few songs to add:
For Good, from Wicked, which basically applies perfectly to Vash and Wolfwood.
Replace Glinda with Wolfwood, and Elphaba with Vash, and it's PERFECT.
Vash:
It well may be That we will never meet again In this lifetime So let me say before we part So much of me Is made from what I learned from you You’ll be with me Like a handprint on my heart And now whatever way our stories end I know you have re-written mine By being my friend…
Is this a roundabout way of saying I ship Elphaba and Glinda...? Maybe.
THIS one, "Alive," from Jekyll and Hyde always makes me think of Knives (especially in the manga), but probably only because I saw it used in an intro to someone's AMV (which no longer exists, sadly), where the clip of Knives after the Big Fall (all teeth and anger) was synched to
"TONIGHT! I'LL TAKE FROM ALL MANKIND CONQUER ALL THE ODDS AND I FEEL I'LL LIVE ON FOREVER, WITH SATAN HIMSELF BY MY SIDE!"
Finally, here is "Facade," ALSO from Jekyll and Hyde, which makes me think of Wolfwood whenever I hear it. Specifically, it reminds me of Wolfwood in Mostly Harmless III's AMAZING Trigun fic, "Needful"
There are preachers who kill, There are killers who preach
That's the line that caught my attention, and I went back and listened more carefully, and over 2/3 of the lyrics actually apply perfectly to Wolfwood in Needful, and probably in general.

(I had picked out For Good for Vash and Wolfwood, too! *high five* And my sister is a big fan of Jekyll & Hyde, and those lines always remind me of Wolfwood as well.)
Does anyone else give songs to characters jokingly? For example, if I ever hear Sunglasses at Night by Corey Hart, I like to picture Wolfwood turning up the radio, putting on his own sunglasses, and singing along. "Don't switch a blade on the guy in shades, oh no! Don't masquerade with the guy in shades, oh no! *points at Vash* 'Cause you got it made with the guy in shades, oh no!" (Plus the verses begin with "I wear my sunglasses at night," and there's a scene in Badlands Rumble when Wolfwood is, indeed, wearing is sunglasses at night.)
My joking theme song for Elendira is Aerosmith's That Dude Looks Like a Lady.

Does anyone else give songs to characters jokingly? "When Will You Die" by They Might Be Giants is my joking song for Trigun~ it makes me think of Wolfwood getting frustrated with Vash or all the bounty hunters that are after him, haha. I'm so tired Of your lies And the evil things You're doing behind my back
Are there crimes That you have never committed? I doubt it, sometimes I wonder When will you die?
and I can just imagine Wolfwood getting really annoyed and shouting: You're insane You are bad You wreck everything you touch And you're a sociopath

I think Trigun is a pretty versatile series, where you can associate it with ANY type of music, and it still makes sense. Heck, Trigun's OST is a dang good example of that!
However, what ESPECIALLY screams "Trigun" to me, is anything that can combine the alien, outlandish, but humble down-to-earth feelings the series is so good at expressing... and a lotta psychedelic rock seems to pull that off nicely!
One in particular that really makes me think "Trigun", is Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" by Tame Impala
However, reading more into the lyrics again, I realize this is a pretty good song for Vash, as well. The lyrics really feel like just a reflection on his mind. Heck... the first verse just makes me kinda think of Vash's awareness of a certain insurance girl's feelings for him (and her feelings are dang obvious in both the anime and manga).
"I know that you think you sound silly when you call my name, But I hear it inside my head all day. When I realize I'm just holding onto the hope that maybe your feelings don't show..."
I'd LOVE to make an AMV of this at some point. I just gotta... figure out how. |U
As for songs I associate to certain characters... gotta think more about that. Not that I don't have any; my mind's STILL not awake enough to remember them at the moment. =_=

This isn't so much a song that makes me think of Trigun themes as it is a song that feels like it would fit right into the soundtrack:
Spira Unplugged
It has the same nice, quirky yet mellow acoustic guitar that I like so much in the Trigun OST and Badlands Rumble OST.

Well, Dust in the Wind reminds me a lot of Trigun, especially the Scorpions version that has an wonderful intrumental.

Just going to quietly stick Wayward Son here. Don't think anything needs to be said about this one.

These two songs from Cowboy Bebop give me Trigun feels, and I'm 90% sure that's Tsuneo Imahori playing in both of these, since he was in the Seatbelts.

woah look it's me posting deftones what a shock (sobs i'm obsessed)
anyway heh, it doesn't SOUND very trigun, but i really like imagining this song from legato's point of view
like......
"on the day you arrived i became your device to maim and soothe"
i mean DANG if that isn't a completely legato thing to say. not only is he..... kind of literally entombed for most of the manga, considering the coffin thing, but despite the abuse he feels safer and more useful with knives than he ever did anywhere else, and he's happy to be treated as a lowly object just to keep that feeling uwu
