It's that time of the year again!! Are you guys going to any cons this year? If so which ones? Will you be cosplaying? As for me, I'm so far only going to AnimeNEXT (I might go to NYCC in October). At AnimeNEXT I'll be cosplaying as Puella Magi characters all three days (that is if I can get a costume that fits me in time )

I'm heading to AVCon for any of you that may be in Australia! I was actually talking to someone about helping me make a Meryl cosplay, but I just can't afford to spend any money right now so sadly not this year.

I've been to a few animeNEXTs (went last year) but this year I'm kind of just taking a break from cons. I'm thinking about going to Colossalcon and maybe Ohayocon next year. I will miss anext but it's too far north x.x

I've only been to local cons, and they already happened this year, but I'm gonna look around and see if there's anything nearby for me to try this summer I'm on the northeast coast of the US, are there any cons around there coming up that anyone's going to?

Wow hahah I'm stuck to the Bay Area over here so I'm going to like NONE of the cons you guys are. I mostly stick to small cons. Animation On Display in japantown, Fanime... though I'm thinking of going to comicon next year! Too late now. T_T
If any of you are interested, I'll be selling art in the artist alley at Fanime this year! I'll be dressed as Zacharie from OFF, but I have a ton of Trigun prints. :3 I wanted to cosplay Rem, but I didn't have the time to put any new cosplays together except for the Zacharie one... even if it is a really easy one. I also couldn't afford a wig long enough to dress as her. ;~;

I went to Nakakon in Kansas City, MO in March, and I've got a local con in July, but that's it for me. My friends keep talking about going to Akon in Dallas, but I doubt we'll actually make it down there.

My best friend lives in Sacramento and she's driving us both down from Portland to Fanime for the weekend. Maybe I'll buy some prints off of you!! And you'll be dressed as Zacharie from Off? A girl after my own heart! ;D

I must admit that I will be attending my very first con this July. I'm... both nervous and excited. Ever since high school I've wanted to go to one, but the time was never right, or I never had someone to go with. I'll be hanging out with a friend on and off through the con, so I'll still mostly be alone, but I'm really looking forward to it. Does anyone have con attendance tips for a trepidation-filled first-timer?

(Psst. Where are you going in July?) Here's things I wish someone had told me for my first con: -Rather than bringing a purse, bring something more like a messenger bag, so you can conveniently carry around purchased items, the con schedule, etc. Carrying around small snacks and a water bottle is convenient too, although you'll have plenty of chances to buy junk food while you're there. -Bring lots of cash. Not all of the vendors will take cards. -If you want to take a picture of someone, just walk up and ask. Costumers get asked for pictures all day long, so they're used to it. Taking a sneaky snapshot from across the room, though, is considered creepy and bad manners. -If there's a panel or event that you REALLY want to go to, then get there early, because there'll be a line, ESPECIALLY if you're at a large con.

Oh, good to know!
Whoops. I'm going to CONvergence in Minneapolis. Apparently it's pretty huge, because it's four days long and about 7,000 people have already signed up, soooo... Nothing like jumping in the deep end. Aaaaand I'll probably end up cosplaying myself for one of the days - my friend is going as Kenshin, and I'm making a Twilight Princess Link costume... I don't even know how to prepare for that, mentally. She's a theater person and super savvy in this stuff, and I just... Admire that? So I want to be out of my comfort zone. My family kind of thinks I'm nuts but they're cool with it.

My experience is that people who are shy tend to be pretty comfortable in cosplay, actually. I guess, in a way, they can hide behind the character, and some people will kind of subconsciously draw confidence from the character they're cosplaying. For example, I cosplay as Milly Thompson and as Fluttershy, and while I'm Milly, I find myself naturally more confident and cheerfully, but while I'm Fluttershy, I actually get a little more quiet and jumpy. I don't mean to, it's just a weird psychological thing. Another plus is that you'll be surrounded by other people in costume so it's easy to take up the mentality of, "It doesn't matter if I make a fool of myself, because I'm surrounded by people who are also making fools of themselves." XD Most people don't stay in-character all the time, so don't worry if you don't have any acting skills. A good idea, though, is to strike poses in a mirror ahead of time so that you know what to do if someone asks for a picture of you. You'll have a blast. Cosplaying is fun. ^_^

And you'll be dressed as Zacharie from Off? A girl after my own heart! ;D Oooh, it'll be a fun time I guarantee it. ^_^ Just be prepared for the crowds! Fanime is huge! Of course, there's way more room now in the convention center, since it's been under construction all year, so maybe it won't be as crowded? We can only hope. Aaaah you're so kiiiind~~ <3 I hope to see you! And Zacharie hopes to see the color of your credits

I'm just going to fairly-small local con for me in June, called Anime Blues Con. It's relatively new, and this'll be their third year. Each year has been a blast to go to so far though, so I'm looking forward to going again (as well as find as many trigun-related things as possible)!
... As fun as it would be, I'm not going to cosplay. I'd gotta think what I wanna do, and it's kinda too late to make anything. No doubt if I was going to cosplay though, I'd do something weird again like my last one (last year I was Giygas from Earthbound 8U), but... maybe next year that'll actually happen.
All y'all cosplaying for your upcoming cons better show some pictures, though! >8U (if you just want to that is~!)
